Speaking about the Temporary Foreign Worker Program

Over the past couple months, Rick Dykstra, M.P., Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, has had the opportunity to hold meetings in several regions of Ontario to discuss the future of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. During these meetings he has emphasized the need to communicate to the public the benefits of this program, both in terms of its benefit to the Canadian economy and the positive effect that it has on participating workers. Over the same period, Brent Rathgeber, M.P., has been conducting similar meetings in B.C. and Alberta.

Rick Dykstra came to Nova Scotia between February 5th and 8th to continue these meetings, starting with a roundtable in the Annapolis Valley on Friday February 5th and continuing with a meeting organized by the Greater Halifax Partnership on Monday February 8th . The meeting was a real successful, employers from the IT, Health and Manufacturing Sector met with Rick and expressed  their successes and challenges regarding the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

Connector Program reaches first milestone: 20 immigrants successfully employed through connections!

Since the launch of the Connector Program in July 2009, we have been connecting immigrants to business leaders to help them expand their professional networks.

Through connection meetings, referrals, or program support, 20 immigrants have now secured employment and are able to give back to the community.

Remember by opening your door to a newcomer you can reach across borders and find new opportunities together.
